Contemporary renovation in Italy

This Italian countryside house belong to photographer Federica Bottoli and architect Vittorio Longheu. The original two apartments were transformed into one space in order to accommodate both the family space and Federica's own studio. The owners' great passion for Mies Van der Rohe's work is revealed in the minimal approach towards the space. Traditional elements, such as the wooden beams in the kitchen or the old doors, were preserved. Few design pieces declined in neutral and brown colour decorate the space. The only very contemporary element is the kitchen area.

Tiziana Tosoni's scrapbook

This images come from talented Italian stylist and designer Tiziana Tosoni from Como, Italy. Her website is one of my favourite sources of inspiration: I love the way she focuses on one theme and fades to the next one. The images below show the first three pages of her site: copper, silver, brass, gold is the sequence.

Weekend special: Stratigraphic Porcelain

The Stratigraphic Porcelain series is designed for the ceramic 3d printer. It's a series of tableware, where each piece has its own source code. 3D printing is becoming more and more popular among designers as they start to experiment with this new technique, that could mark a no return point in the design industry. In fact, 3d printing could change completely the relation among designers, producers and customers by eliminating distribution all together. Moreover, the object (better, its code) could be sent directly to local manufacturers or even customers' home where it would be actually made. Could you imagine?

Interior design made in Barcelona

Image selection on INTSIGHT Interiorism based in Barcelona, Spain. The approach the company opts for is clean, minimal in order to enhance the quality of the space they are working with. White is the main colour in their scheme and wood and metal are the preferred materials. The outcome is elegant, extremely elegant. My favourite details are the mirror that reflects the stuccos and the bed frame.

DIY: book origami

I do have to admit I have a thing for origami. So when I first saw these book origami hanging from a bookshop window here in Barcelona I was so tempted. But, it was not until the images from Lotta Agaton's styling  for String came out that I decided to give it a go.
Here you can see the shape inspired by Tom Dixon's Etch tea light holders but the variations are just infinite. Check my Instagram for more!

The process is simple: you need to fold the corner of each page towards the centre of the book. The dimension of the space left between the triangles will define the shape of the book origami. I suggest to go for a thick book with thick pages in order to have a more volume.

Try to keep at least 4-5 cm on the short side of the book because this will be the base of the origami and will help to make it stand. And now, fold.. fold.. fold!

SELECTED | Gandia Blasco Rugs

I spotted these rugs on a picture taken by Annalena Leino at Lotta Agaton's shop in Stockholm. They are a project of Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola for Gandia Blasco.
The collection is called MANGAS - that means sleeve in English - and it is based on a patchwork of different wool knits, to create a collection of various typologies with different shapes, going from Manga farol (bellowed sleeve) to Manga de campana (bell-shaped sleeve). I find the collection playful and extremely orginal with a great colour scheme. What do you think?
